Red Hat has announced the availability of the beta release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1: "Red Hat is pleased to announce the availability of the beta of the first update to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. This beta is an update to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 platform that was made available to customers beginning in November 2010." Updates in this release include a new optional convention for naming network interfaces, full support for hot-adding of CPUs and memory, kernel scheduler updates and performance improvements, a new driver for Intel Generation 6 Graphics integrated into the Sandy Bridge processor, improved support for the configuration of WiFi Protected Access (WPA) Enterprise and IPv6 in NetworkManager, and many other updates. Great news from distrowatch, Mandriva has release the new version of their Mandriva Linux 5.2 Enterprise Server, you can check it out on their respective website.

Mandriva Linux was launched in 1998 under the name of Mandrake Linux, with the goal of making Linux easier to use for everyone. At that time, Linux was already well-known as a powerful and stable operating system that demanded strong technical knowledge and extensive use of the command line; MandrakeSoft saw this as an opportunity to integrate the best graphical desktop environments and contribute its own graphical configuration utilities to quickly become famous for setting the standard in Linux ease of use. In February 2005, MandrakeSoft merged with Brazil's Conectiva to form Mandriva S.A., with headquarters in Paris, France. The company's flagship product, Mandriva Linux, offers all the power and stability of Linux to both individuals and professional users in an easy-to-use and pleasant environment.

openSUSE 11.4, a major new update of one of the world's most popular Linux distributions, has been released: "We are proud to announce the launch of 11.4 in the openSUSE tradition of delivering the latest technology while maintaining stability. The 11.4 release brings significant improvements along with the latest in free software applications. Combined with the appearance of new tools, projects and services around the release, 11.4 marks a showcase of growth and vitality for the openSUSE project. openSUSE 11.4 is based around Linux kernel 2.6.37 which improves the scalability of virtual memory management and separation of tasks executed by terminal users.
